Fishers Bistro Fishers Bistro is a long-time favourite in Leith with views over the water. The place is small, set on a windy corner, with relentlessly nautical decor, sea blue walls, and bare wooden floors. It's smart, like a well-kept boat. Fish is probably what you'll be having here, but the fish will have been fancified, transformed. Yes, there are superb raw Loch Fyne oysters, but there are also dishes like starter of seared tuna steak with chilli and lime couscous salad, main course of roast rainbow trout with artichoke sauce and smoked oysters, and dessert of chocolate cheesecake. The wine list is heavy on good bottles with lightweight price tags, and the staff make you feel as if they care about your happiness and would like to see you again. Fishers in the City Fishers in the City in Edinburgh’s New Town is the sister restaurant to the spectacularly popular and successful Fishers Bistro in Leith. In fact, the original Fishers Bistro was such a success that the town fathers nearly sent a delegation out to beg a branch closer to town. And here it is: Fishers in the City is a seafood restaurant of great style and quality, a smart, modern bistro with all the virtues of the original. Fish is the reason you’re here, as are superb ingredients, memorable cooking, fleet and caring service and a great atmosphere. The menu changes constantly. Try starter of oysters, the poached Lindisfarne ones if they're in season when you're on site, main course of stuffed whole sea bass with chorizo, mozzarella and olives, and dessert of chocolate truffle cake with wild berry coulis. Great staff, smart decor, relaxed ambience. Cuisine: Seafood Location: 58 Thistle Street, Edinburgh, EH2 1EN [Map] |

Sweet Melindas Sweet Melindas is an excellent seafood restaurant in the studenty area of Marchmont. The low-key shop front and dead-square space are brought alive by good lighting, white walls simply decorated with old photographs, chirpy staff and lots of diners; the place is often full to the gills. Much of the food comes from Eddie's Seafood Market next door - a fishmonger given the thumbs up by Rick Stein - every morning; that's when the kitchen decides what that day's menu will be. Recent treats include fresh crab with samphire and parmesan, and pan-fried halibut with leek and truffle risotto. There's always at least one meat and one veg starter and main. Appetites are whetted as soon as you're seated and presented with fresh homemade soda bread and tapinade. Scrummy. Cuisine: Seafood Location: 11 Roseneath Street, Edinburgh, EH9 1JH [Map] |
