Manna Mahal
Situated on Bucculeuch Street in Edinburgh, Manna Mahal is popular with local foodies who drop in whenever they’re craving authentic Indian food. The chefs use fresh spices and traditional recipes in their home-style dishes, so you can be sure that whatever you order tastes just as it would in India. House specialities include their signature lamb masala; prawn palak with fresh spinach, garlic and coriander; and the sizzling jaipuri chicken. For something a little different, we recommend trying some of their excellent South Indian dishes like idli (steamed rice cakes with spicy chutney) and masala dosa (thin pancakes with your choice of filling). For a relaxed dinner for two or a full-on feast with family and friends, Manna Mahal never fails to impress.

Mezbaan
On Edinburgh’s Tollcross, set in a traditional grey stone building, is Mezbaan, a popular South Indian restaurant drawing in both locals and visitors to the city alike. The approach, with burgundy awning and black and white tiled step, has a hint of Manhattan about it. The city slicker vibe continues inside with a well appointed dining room and extremely efficient service, however the food offers a rustic vibe, being the only place in Edinburgh to sample South Indian cuisine. Always popular is the street style food; masala dosas, idlis or the much talked about haggis pakoras, proving that it’s still possible to inject a touch of imagination in to Indian food.
