Indigo (Yard)
In the heart of Edinburgh’s West End sits one of the city’s most highly acclaimed restaurants, Indigo (Yard). The obligatory brackets in the name are the only complicated thing about it. Indigo (Yard) restaurant ranks as one of Edinburgh’s favourite restaurants, simple as that. Some devotees think of Indigo (Yard) as one of the very best bars and bar scenes anywhere, but that attitude doesn’t properly credit the kitchen. Indigo (Yard) is also a modern European restaurant, a most stylish and justifiably popular bistro serving modern and international cuisine to guests seated in the many comfortable areas designed to suit a particular mood or time of day. Capable of feeling sometime intimate and romantic, other times bright and fresh, Indigo (Yard) is a restaurant that’s ideal for power breakfast, light lunch, quality dinner of traditional comfort food or just some fierce banter, and gets the café and restaurant balance just right.

Iris
Tucked away on Thistle Street, Iris has been a welcome addition to the Edinburgh restaurant scene. This chic little bistro - with its designer wallpaper, banquette seating and rough stone walls – has an intimate, cosmopolitan vibe, and is popular with a discreet and sophisticated creative crowd. The modern European menu is guaranteed to impress, we love the roast duck breast with fresh raspberries and Drambuie; chicken supreme stuffed with langoustines served with a garlic and herb buerre blanc; and the roasted quail with spicy potatoes served with an orange and rocket salad. Ideal for stylish working lunches, and informal evening meals, Iris also has an extensive wine list with up to 17 bottles for under £20.

La P'tite Folie
It’s name meaning ‘the little madness’, Edinburgh’s La P’tite Folie is, in many ways, a very sensible dining option indeed. Its quirky set up simply oozes Parisian chic from every floorboard and film poster, with deep red walls and dark wood furniture creating a warm, cosy vibe. It perhaps comes as little surprise that the mainstay of the La P’tite Folie menu then is the very best of traditional French food – Moules Mariniere, sirloin steak with ‘beurre Maitre d’Hotel’ and so on – served in an unfussy way, cooked beautifully and simply. The wine list is as much an attraction as the menu too, with a wide range of fine wines from around the world and, naturellement, from France itself.
