The Stockbridge Restaurant
toptable Dining Awards 2010 - Runner-up: Top Diner Rated and Romance. Up and coming chef Jason Gallagher has done a fine job in turning the former haunt of local 'celebrity' chef Juliet Lawrence Wilson into a luxurious showcase of his own exciting style of Modern European cuisine. The basement space really is a lovely little restaurant for a romantic meal or special occasion. Black-painted walls decorated with modern art work well with plush golden upholstered chairs, thick white table linen and fairy lights to create an especially intimate atmosphere. Gallagher works with fresh, seasonal ingredients so the menu often changes, but the offerings are guaranteed to be indulgent and of the kind that feel like they're a real treat to be eating. Perfect service too.

The Voodoo Rooms
This grand venue, which is situated just off the east end of Princes Street in Edinburgh, could be described as part 1930s speakeasy, and part artsy-Edinburgh bistro. Dressed up with glossy fittings in a historic building on West Register Street – we love the molded ceilings, black leather booths and the dark gothic-glamour edge - The Voodoo Rooms is a super spot for special nights out with friends or colleagues. The venue regularly hosts live bands and events, and the restaurant has an impressive brasserie-style menu and an award-winning selection of cocktails. Star dishes include the 8oz Voodoo burger with Swiss cheese and hand-cut fries; and the chocolate brownie with toffee sauce and ice cream.

The Westroom
Joining the party on Melville Place is brand new bar-restaurant The West Room. The new venture really couldn’t look more at home among the small handful of style bars which are dotted around this pretty, upmarket part of Edinburgh. Where many others would be tempted to theme it up in such a traditionally styled building, particularly when serving such Scottish food, The West Room team have bravely left the tartans at the door, instead bringing in simplistic furniture painted in light colours to make the most of high ceilings and original features. Likewise that Scottish food we mentioned is far more refined and attractive than you might expect, although it will nonetheless tug at the heart strings of anyone raised north of the border.

Vienna
Le Monde is a boutique hotel set in a Georgian town house on Edinburgh's chichi George Street. Vienna is just one of the themed bar/restaurants within (Le Monde also offers you the options of eating and drinking in Milan, or in Paris on weekends and special occasions). The hotel offers you a trip around the world, without leaving the premises. Vienna restaurant is impressively designed – indeed Le Monde has won both the Scottish Hotel of the Year 2009 and the Scottish Hotel Design Award 2006. As well as bar stools and tables with low armchairs, customers can also choose leather booths in which to enjoy their meals. Vienna is famous for its excellent cocktail list, and they also serve a wide range of food; French, Italian, Scottish and Asian influences pull together to bring you an extensive menu full of classics like burgers and steaks, and for the more adventurous, risotto and peking duck.
